The school has received a number of awards for their prestigious accomplishments. Since 2005, the school has taken part in a bi-annual NY fashion week event. The runway that the Academy of Art University held back in September took place at Skylight Clarkson Square. The event featured a handful of outfits made by a creative group of designers. The outfits were created using various materials and each of them resembled different things. We will cover just a few of the designers and how they took on the challenge of creating an outfit. The first was Hailun Zhou. The fashion designer out of Qing Dao, China created an outfit from materials that she made as well as vinyl and PVC. She was inspired to create this outfit by photographs she had taken and observations she made while going on a voyage for a creative concept class. The next designer is named Eden Slezin. Eden created an outfit from recycled rubber bike tubes as well as organic denim. He came from the Bay Area, which inspired him to make an outfit pertaining to life and love. Dina Marie Lam is the next designer who created an outfit. She wanted to evoke a feeling of warmth and comfort, choosing to use soft and luxurious materials. She was inspired to create this outfit from the passing of her aunt. Her beloved aunt’s passing caused a lot of emotions and memories to come out, which she used to fuel her project. Each of these designers created a special outfit. They all had completely different ideas in how they were going to construct their project, however they all had similar means. They used inspiration from something that was near and dear to them. They created something special from something they loved.
